A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car collided with multiple pedestrians outside Marks & Spencer in Ealing Broadway on Saturday afternoon.
The Metropolitan Police reported that five pedestrians were injured in the incident, which occurred around 2:30 PM on The Broadway, W5.
Two individuals received treatment at the scene, while three others were transported to the hospital. Fortunately, all five are believed to have sustained injuries that are not life-threatening or life-changing.
The vehicle involved did not stop at the scene but was intercepted shortly thereafter in nearby Grange Park, where the driver was apprehended on suspicion of dangerous driving and attempted murder.
A police spokesperson stated: "Due to the nature of the incident, local officers consulted with officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London during the initial inquiries. While investigators are keeping an open mind regarding any potential motive, the incident is not being treated as terrorism."
Local leaders have expressed their concerns and support for those affected. Councillor Adam Keenan remarked: "My thoughts are with those injured in this horrific act of violence. I applaud the resilience of NHS workers and the swift actions of police in identifying and arresting the driver. I have confidence that justice will be served."
Councillor Julian Gallant added: "I was very upset to hear about this incident on Saturday, which has caused serious injuries to people innocently going about their business on a warm Saturday afternoon. I wish them a speedy recovery. My thanks also to the emergency services who attended the scene so promptly. We need to look very carefully at improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers in Ealing Broadway."
Dr. Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, expressed her wishes for a speedy recovery for those injured and praised the emergency services and members of the public who responded to the incident.
