Powerday Hooks Boxing Club is celebrating double Commonwealth Games gold after Damar Thomas and Patris Mughalzai both topped the podium for Team England at Glasgow 2026. The two victories put the Ealing-based amateur boxing club at the heart of an outstanding Games for England's boxing team and underline the value of grassroots sporting development in the borough.

There are two new Commonwealth champions for Powerday Hooks Boxing Club, after Damar Thomas and Patris Mughalzai struck gold for England at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The pair represented Team England as part of its 14-strong boxing squad, with both entering the competition carrying significant international experience. England Boxing identifies both Thomas and Mughalzai as Powerday Hooks fighters.
Their performances ultimately produced a remarkable double success for the club. The Powerday Hooks boxer secured the Commonwealth title with a unanimous-decision victory, completing a tournament in which he boxed five times. It was a major achievement for Mughalzai on his Commonwealth Games debut and gave England its second boxing gold of Finals Day. Thomas defeated India's Narender Narender by unanimous decision in the final, becoming the fourth consecutive English boxer to win the Commonwealth super-heavyweight crown. For Powerday Hooks Boxing Club, having two fighters return from the same Commonwealth Games as champions represents a significant achievement. Powerday Hooks is a voluntary amateur boxing club with its home base at 210 Popes Lane in Ealing, close to Acton. The club describes its work as combining competitive boxing with coaching, mentoring and opportunities for young people.
Its history stretches back to 2009, when the club was founded by coach Steve Newland. Powerday says Newland had previously coached and mentored Olympic and world champion James DeGale. The club's own history records dozens of national titles since its foundation, but the Glasgow results have now added two Commonwealth Games gold medals to a growing story of sporting achievement.
