Ealing could soon host one of west London’s biggest new cultural venues if plans for a temporary theatre in Walpole Park move forward.

Proposed by Troubadour Theatres, this state-of-the-art venue would seat over 1,200 people and operate for around three years, staging top-tier productions akin to the West End.

If approved, construction starts in January 2027 with performances launching by April 2027 and running until March 2030.

The theatre promises modern amenities, jobs for more than 40 people, and expects to boost Ealing Broadway and West Ealing’s businesses.

It would mean relocating the popular Ealing Summer Festivals to other borough sites.

This project could also test the potential for a permanent theatre in Ealing. Final approval will depend on Ealing Council’s cabinet decision and local consultation.

Ealing Council has secured 95 new social-rent homes as part of the Bollo Yard development, located between Acton Town and South Acton.

The properties, purchased from developer Hurlington Capital for a total budget of £30.28 million, will be allocated to those on the borough’s housing waiting list, which includes over 6,000 households.

The homes—ranging from one to three bedrooms—had been earmarked for a mix of London Affordable Rent and shared ownership, but will now be exclusively for social rent, providing much-needed truly affordable housing in the area.

Demolition is underway, with completion expected in 2028.
