Community Activities Expand Across Southall and Acton |

Families in Southall and Acton are benefiting from a growing programme of sports, creative workshops, gardening and community events, as housing association Peabody works with local organisations to bring neighbours together.
Activities have returned to Windmill Park Community Centre in Southall, while residents at Westcott Park and Friary Park in Acton are also taking part in programmes designed to encourage wellbeing, friendships and community involvement.
The initiatives are supported by the Peabody Community Foundation, the charitable arm of housing association Peabody.
Windmill Park Welcomes Families BackAt Windmill Park, a wider programme of community activities is being rebuilt following a quieter period after the pandemic.
During the summer holidays, Sonshine Smiles CIC delivered free arts and crafts, music and DJ sessions through the Holiday Activities and Food programme.
Sporting Inspirations also organised multi-sports sessions, giving children opportunities to stay active and meet others in their neighbourhood.
An August family fun day brought residents together for football, Zumba, games, crafts and refreshments, with support from local community organisations.
Sports sessions are continuing during the school year, and further holiday activities are planned for December and Easter. Peabody says residents are helping to shape the programme so that future activities reflect what local families actually want.
Gardening and Community Events in ActonThe programme extends beyond Southall. At Westcott Park in Acton, children have enjoyed holiday activities organised by Sonshine Smiles and Sporting Inspirations. The Westcott Community Garden Group also held a community fun day, bringing neighbours together around shared outdoor spaces.
Residents heard from the London Beekeepers Association about urban beekeeping and the garden's 10 community hives, highlighting the role local green spaces can play in supporting wildlife. Meanwhile, at Friary Park, families have been involved in planting, growing and nature activities through the Community Garden Project, delivered by Letting Grow CIC. A recent community harvest event celebrated what residents had grown and achieved together.
Building Stronger Local CommunitiesThe projects are about more than providing occasional entertainment. Regular activities can help families meet neighbours, encourage children to try new interests and give residents greater involvement in their local surroundings.
Peabody's community investment team says it will continue working with residents and local partners to develop activities over the coming months. For people living around Windmill Park, Westcott Park and Friary Park, the expanding programmes offer opportunities to take part in community life close to home.
