Ealing Hospital Rated Good Following Major Improvements in Patient Care |

Ealing Hospital has received a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), marking a significant improvement in the quality and safety of services provided to patients across the London Borough of Ealing.
The hospital, located on Uxbridge Road in Southall, was previously rated Requires Improvement. Its new rating follows inspections conducted in July 2026, with the findings published on 21 October. Inspectors recognised improvements in emergency care, patient safety, staffing and the treatment of patients with dignity and respect. The hospital's urgent and emergency care services have also been upgraded to Good.
What Has Improved at Ealing Hospital? The CQC identified several changes since its previous inspection, including improvements to the emergency department and how patients are assessed and cared for.
These include:
The hospital has been redesigning its emergency department, with improvements to waiting areas, seating, clinical spaces and facilities for patients requiring mental health support.
Inspectors found that the hospital was no longer breaching regulations relating to patients' dignity or safe care and treatment. These improvements are particularly important for the thousands of residents who depend on Ealing Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Emergency Care Improvements — But Challenges RemainThe CQC's findings highlighted progress in how quickly patients are assessed after arriving at the emergency department. Between July 2025 and June 2026, patients were typically triaged within 14 minutes, meeting the national guideline of 15 minutes. However, ambulance handovers remain an area requiring improvement.
In June 2026, 59.3% of patients arriving by ambulance were handed over within 30 minutes, compared with a national target of 95%. Long waits for some patients and the continuing refurbishment of the emergency department also remain important considerations. Although the hospital is now rated Good overall, its responsiveness across the hospital remains rated Requires Improvement. Recognition for Staff and Patient CareThe latest assessment also confirmed that end-of-life care at Ealing Hospital continues to be rated Good. Inspectors highlighted compassionate care, effective teamwork and support for patients and their families.
Mark Titcomb, chief executive of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, welcomed the findings and credited staff for improvements in patient safety, communication and dignity. The Trust has acknowledged that further work is needed.
Its overall organisational rating remains Requires Improvement, even though Ealing Hospital itself is now rated Good.
For local residents, the latest inspection represents encouraging progress while underlining the importance of continued improvements to emergency services.
