"Ealing is a little bit of country in the heart of London—a place where you can hear laughter instead of engines." — Alan Rickman |
Summer presents the ideal chance to embrace the outdoors, and supporting local wildlife is simpler than many realize.
The RSPB offers easy, enjoyable activities for Ealing families, from birdwatching and planting pollinator-friendly gardens to exploring nearby green spaces.
Easy steps like leaving out water for birds, planting butterfly-attracting flowers, and creating bug havens can enhance local habitats — all while inspiring children to discover more about nature.
Ealing’s parks and reserves, including Walpole Park, Northala Fields, and Brent Lodge Park, invite residents to enjoy wildlife walks or spot birds and butterflies close to home.
Swapping screen time for outdoor adventures — like building bug hotels or keeping a simple nature journal — not only helps wildlife but also brings families together in fun, healthy ways.
Even small efforts in your garden, balcony, or local park contribute to thriving ecosystems across the borough.

Featherstone Primary & Nursery School in Southall has been recognised as one of the UK's leading schools for developing children's speaking and communication skills after receiving Voice 21 Oracy Centre of Excellence status.
The prestigious recognition places the school among just 67 schools nationwide to receive the award, selected from more than 1,200 schools working with the education charity Voice 21. The award celebrates schools that place communication, discussion and confident speaking at the heart of learning, helping pupils develop skills that will benefit them throughout school, future careers and everyday life.
Headteacher Des Lee said every child deserves to have a voice and the confidence to use it, adding that the school is proud its pupils have been recognised nationally for developing skills that will stay with them for life.
The latest honour follows a string of recent successes for Featherstone Primary, including an Outstanding Ofsted inspection and recognition as an IQM Centre of Excellence, reinforcing the school's reputation for delivering high-quality education and supporting every child to reach their potential.
