Children aged 4 to 11 are being encouraged to discover the joy of reading this summer as the Summer Reading Challenge returns to libraries across the London Borough of Ealing.

This year's challenge, themed "Read to the Beat!", celebrates the connection between books and music, encouraging children to explore fiction, non-fiction, poetry, audiobooks and graphic novels throughout the school holidays.

Taking part is completely free. Children can sign up at participating libraries, set their own reading goals and collect stickers, rewards and prizes as they complete their challenge. Those who finish before 12 September will receive a certificate and medal to celebrate their achievement.

The challenge isn't only about reading books. Young people can also listen to audiobooks, read recommendations from friends or simply spend more time discovering everything their local library has to offer.

Throughout the summer, libraries across Ealing will also host a programme of free family events, including storytelling sessions, music workshops and creative activities designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading. Author Truly Johnston will lead a music-themed workshop at Acton Town Hall Library, while children's author Candida Mosoma will host storytelling sessions in Northolt and Southall.

Participating libraries include:

  • Ealing Central Library
  • Acton Town Hall Library
  • Northolt Library
  • Northolt Leisure Library
  • Southall Library
  • Northfields Community Library

Whether children are already keen readers or just beginning to discover books, the Summer Reading Challenge offers a fun, free way to build confidence, imagination and creativity during the school holidays.
