Work has begun on a major £1.65 million upgrade to Ealing Hospital's A&E department, increasing capacity and improving the way patients move through emergency care.

The 14-week project, which started on 29 July, will create nine new urgent treatment examination pods, including two designed to provide greater privacy during examinations. A further eight dedicated treatment spaces will also be added.

New assessment and diagnostic rooms form part of the redevelopment, with the new layout intended to help clinical teams assess, diagnose and treat patients more efficiently as demand for emergency services continues to grow.

Improvements are also being made for patients arriving by ambulance. The hospital's existing ambulance "pitstop" assessment area will increase from four to six trolley spaces, while a centrally positioned staff base is being introduced to support communication and faster responses to incoming patients.

The investment comes as Ealing Hospital prepares for increasing numbers of emergency patients and ambulance arrivals. Hospital leaders say the changes should improve safety, reduce congestion and create a better environment for patients and staff.

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-October 2026, meaning the upgraded department should be ready ahead of the traditionally demanding winter period.
